Food for the Season: Winter, Baked Apples
Ingredients:
- 4 medium sized apples
- 2 teaspoons sunflower seeds or walnuts
- 2 teaspoons raisins
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- sesame oil
Preparation:
- Slice off and save the tops of the apples.
- With a small knife or apple corer, hollow out a one inch hole in the center of each apple. Be careful not to poke through the bottom of the apple.
- Mix all the other ingredients and stuff it into the apples.
- Close the apples by replacing the tops.
- Place the apples in a casserole.
- Bake at 375° in a preheated oven for 40 minutes or until they are tender. To get juicier apples, cover them half way through the baking.
